A government internship programme

Recruitment needs

  • Manage a three-year, high-profile graduate recruitment project on behalf of the British Government’s Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), and the Chinese Government’s Ministry for Education
  • Secure and fill 200 salaried internships per year for China’s most promising final-year masters and postgraduate students with British-based companies. Reciprocally, secure and fill 30 salaried internships annually in China for UK graduates of equal calibre
  • Provide 24-hour pastoral care for all interns based in the UK and China, including hosting an orientation programme and accommodation
  • Manage all logistics and administration for the programme, including sponsoring and administering visas

Our approach

  • Work with companies in the UK and China to identify paid internship opportunities
  • Utilise our global expertise and work alongside our partner the China Scholarship Council to source the best candidates from China’s top universities, while working closely with heads of faculties, professors and heads of careers services to source UK graduates
  • All applications and CVs individually screened by our expert recruitment team, against competencies identified for each role and employer
  • All first-round interviews with Chinese candidates conducted face-to-face in China by our team, and assessment centers and technical tests facilitated to ensure only the most suitable candidates are put forward for employer selection

Results

  • Almost 600 internships have been successfully secured across a broad range of sectors
  • Since the programme’s launch in quarter 4 of 2007, employers in the UK and China have committed more than £10.5 million of salaries to the programme in order to achieve its overall objective of strengthening business and cultural links between the two countries
